When I travel I rely on my iPhone to take photos of the trip. I own a digital camera, but I never use it. It’s much easier to pull out my phone and then upload the shots for my friends and family to see. But while the iPhone camera is good, there are some roadblocks. Taking out your phone to snap photos risks dropping and breaking it, getting it wet and draining the battery – which we all know can be detrimental when you need directions, to take more photos, or simply pass the time on a bus ride to the next town.
Here are five iPhone accessories that every traveler needs.
I recently bought a disguised portable charger. It’s one of those trendy pompoms you hook onto your purse or keychain, but it’s also a phone charger. Just make sure to charge it up before you set out on your trip and then it will be ready to recharge your phone when it dies throughout the day. If you’re not into fluffy accessories, don’t worry. There are plenty of makes and models out there. I had another one that looked like a rectangle piece of plastic and it worked great until it got wet, which bring me to my next accessory.
What’s better than cave kayaking in Belieze or diving with sea turtles? Getting photos of yourself out there. But if you don’t want to risk water damage to your phone, then you’ll have to leave it behind or get yourself a case. Whether you just want a pouch to store your phone in so you have it while you’re out, or you want a snap on case to take photos to capture that iconic underwater shot, a waterproof case is a must for traveling. This isn’t your everyday case, but I definitely recommend bringing one along to snap on when you plan water adventures.
Mini Attachable Lenses
If you want to get really fancy with your travel photos invest in attachable lenses for your iPhone. You can find all different types on Amazon for less than $100 that will give you wider shots, fisheye shots and close up detailed shots. The extra detail the lenses provides gives your photos that extra something that will make all your Instagram followers even more envious of your trips.
Here is a phone case that you will want to use every day. I have the iPhone 6s wallet case and it’s perfect for compacting your belongings when on the go. No one wants to carry a tote bag when they’re walking up and down city streets for 8+ hours. I always try to carry a small cross-shoulder purse. It can hold my ID, cash and credit card making it the perfect iPhone card holder to minimize belongings and maximize space in my purse for travel souvenirs.
Whether you using the JimmyCASE or another case you will want to double up on phone protector by investing in a good quality screen protector. Don’t buy a cheap film protector, invest in a thick glass screen protector. The fastest way to ruin your trip is to drop your phone and have the screen shatter to bits. No more pictures, maps or communications with the world back home. Don’t let that happen to you! I had a glass screen protector on my phone and thought it was cracked, went to get it replaced and when the guy took off the screen protector the glass was in perfect shape underneath. It’s worth it! And you can find good quality protectors for around $10.
Bonus Tip: I use the Snapseed app to edit for travel photos and really make the colors pop. It’s amazing!
