As the second part of my birthday celebration I took a girls trip to Palm Desert for a quick weekend trip. We loaded up my car at 5AM and road tripped up to our first stop in Joshua Tree National Park.
We chose the Lone Horse Mine Trail for a seven mile moderate trek to check out the abandoned mine and take in the strange and vast landscape of Joshua Tree. I would recommend getting there before 9am to get a parking spot at the trail head. In November the temperature was just right, not too hot, but not so cold that you needed to bundle up.
After the hike we explore the nature trail and bouldered around a little. Who knew rocks could be so pretty?
After we'd had enough we left to check into our room in Palm Springs. On the way we saw a roadside sign to "dig your own cactus for 59 cents!" so we pulled over and picked a few little cuties to bring home. The people at Cactus Mart are so nice, funny and will teach you more than you thought you could ever know about planting and caring for cacti. For the price and the fun I would definitely recommend stopping in!
