In flight again! I loved Miami so much I couldn’t wait to get back there. The warm ocean waves and sunny skies were calling my name from across the country and I listened! I took a few days off work for an early birthday celebration in South Florida.
On my first day in town we made the four hour drive out to Key West to explore the charming paradise.
I went around to all the usual tourist spots, including the mile marker zero and the southernmost point in the United States.
We found a nice little beach to relax for a few hours, sunbathe and nap under the clear skies. On the way back to Miami we stopped in Marathon for dinner with a sunset view. We sat at the picnic tables on the docks at Island Fish Co.to watch the sun set over the water. Beautiful view!
And the food wasn’t half bad either. I ordered the chicken Cesar wrap, but it was the Latin yellow rice and beans that won me over. Until the pie! No trip to the Keys is complete without trying the famous, authentic Key Lime Pie. And it sure does live up to the hype!
On Monday we spent the day sunbathing at Haulover Beach. I love this place. It is clothing optional and there are a lot of old guys barring it all. But for the brave, it is a wonderful place to chill out. They have free chairs and umbrellas for all to use and the parking lot across the street is affordable and easy to access with a bridge that goes under the road. You can’t ask for a better set up!
For dinner we dined at a really good Japanese buffet in Sunny Isles and then walked it off along the pier to gaze at the urban jungle and up in the sky at the Super Moon.
Tuesday came too soon, my last day in Florida. It was another sunny, beautiful day so we spent a few hours at a local Sunny Isles beach. It was no less beautiful than any of the other beaches. A few hours passed and I packed it up to return home to San Diego to celebrate my 27th birthday with a big group of the best friends a person could ask for. All in all it was a wonderful birthday week!
