Beauty confession: I used to be a tanning salon addict. When I was younger I used to tan almost every day to get that summer glow. Now that I am 27 I’ve noticed under eye wrinkles, neck wrinkles and fine lines on my forehead that have scared me away from the harmful bronze look. And I’ve incorporated anti-aging products into my daily skin care routine to prevent more damage and diminish the damage that has already been done. From the very basics of washing to the ever so important wrinkle reducing serum I am teaming up with Elan Rose laying out my skin care routine for you.
Wash and wash again
Wash, rinse, repeat, two times a day. I use an all-natural cleaner from OM Botanical. Washing once mostly removes makeup, dirt and oil. Washing the second time ensures all makeup has been cleaned off and allows the cleanser to clean deep into the pores. On the second wash, I use my Mary Kay rotating cleaning brush to get a really deep clean and leave my skin feeling soft. It’s an amazing tool for problem skin!
I always use a toner. Not a store bought one, but organic apple cider vinegar. It works wonders on blemishes, cystic acne (which I’ve struggled with) and dark spots. It has B and C vitamins that helps with cellular turnover and naturally reducing oil (another problem my skin has dealt with! Apple cider vinegar has worked better than any store-bought toner I’ve used before. Try it out, and if it burns for you try diluting it with water.
No matter how well you utilize other skin care products, few others will have more impact on the quality of your skin than moisturizer alone. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! If you have oily skin, like me, this is still very important! I use Neutrogena oil-free moisturizer because it's lightweight and inexpensive. Now that we are getting into the colder months moisturizing dry skin is extremely important.
For Day – Day Cream with Sunscreen
For as long as I can remember my grandma harped on me to use sunscreen and now that I live on the beach where the sun shines nearly 100% of the time I consider sunscreen to be one of the most important products to use on a daily basis. Even when it’s cloudy and even when I don’t plan on being outside much I still put it on. My new favorite Day Cream is from Elan Rose and includes SPF 30 for max protection. Sunscreen was always hard for me to remember to wear, unless I knew I was going to be I the sun all day, but adding it to my daily skin car routine has helped me remember. The Elan Rose product doesn’t have that oily, feel and sunscreen smell that most have and building makeup on top isn’t a problem. Win for makeup and win for skin care!
For Night - Night Serum
When I used to sell beauty products I learned not to sleep with your makeup on. Why? Because while you sleep your cells turnover to create new cells and you don’t want makeup and bacteria clogging your pores and messing with your new cell generation. That is all bad. Instead of polluting new cell growth, I firmly believe in nurturing it with the best anti-aging night cream you can find. I like Elan Rose Wake Up Beautiful because it’s filled with ingredients like vitamin e and b3 that help repair and replenish skin to wake up looking refreshed. Why not take advantage of the 8 hours you spend dreaming to generate beautiful skin? A good night cream is an essential part of any skincare routine, and is not to be confused with moisturizer (which is also necessary!)
Because my skin is not perfect I like to use a product that makes it appear that it is. Using a face primer fills your pores and gives a clear, smooth surface to apply makeup over. It protects your pores from oil and bacteria so it doesn’t break out and cause more damage to your skin. I use Elf Mineral Primer because it glides of smooth and keeps the oil at bay all day.
There you have it! Six basic steps in my daily skin care routine! Do you do anything different? Share with me, I’m always looking for the best ways to take care of my skin!
Note: Elan Rose provided their sunscreen and night serum for me to try, the recommendation here is 100% mine.
