Welcome to my new series featuring day trips from San Diego! I love to travel, whether it’s across the world or right in my own neighborhood. I love exploring new places and taking in new cities. I recently round up some lady fiends and headed up the 5 to Venice Beach for a Sunday day trip.
We packed the car full of beach supplies, a giant bag of popcorn and our set off. Once in Venice we walked the boardwalk until we found The Sidewalk Cage, a restaurant with a huge patio that looked good for brunch. While inside sipping mimosas and enjoy our meal the restaurant was entertained by a guy playing jokes on people walking by. He had the whole place erupting in laughter.
After brunch we sat and watched the roller blade rink where adults we’re blaring their boom box and getting’ down on their blades.
We had intended to lay out on the beach and enjoy the ocean, but with so much action along the boardwalk we didn’t make it. Out of nowhere came a protest-parade with topless people with signs saying “free the nipple” and just as quickly as it came, it passed. We saw a freak show that lured passersbys in with a two headed turtle. Venice is a silly place. There is always something crazy to see and things to buy along the boardwalk. We spent most of the time walking around and people watching, eating ice cream cones and pit stopping along the boardwalk for a quick drink. We stopped at Hotel Irwin for their rooftop view. I highly recommend it, most beautiful view in the city!
Just a few blocks from the boardwalk we found the Venice Canals. A contrast from the craziness of the beach was the peaceful serene walkways lined with gardens and quaint homes. If you’re ever in Venice take a few minutes to walk through the Canals. It’s a beautiful place!
By sunset we finally made it to the beach! It was so beautiful!
