Pole dancing, yes stripper pole dancing. I tried it and I loved it! Every month this year I’ve tried a new type of workout as a part of the 12 Workouts in 12 Months Challenge. This month I clothed down (sort of – short shorts and a tank top, skin contact is key!) and threw up a pair of too high heels to strut my moves on the pole at Pole Sinsations in the East Village neighborhood of San Diego.
The place is so cute! Inside of the studio, that is. Everything is pink and pretty. Outside is kind of sketch and you might have to call or wait for the instructor to let you in, the doorbell doesn’t work. Inside there are 12 poles set up against pink-painted back walls and mirrored front walls so you can watch yourself strut and keep your form in check.
The instructor was super friendly, checked me right in and gave me beginners info, like constantly wiping down your pole with the alcohol spray bottle and towel when the pole gets slippery so you can better grip during your stunts. She gave me a pair of really high exotic dancer heels to use in class and once a couple more girls showed up we got going.
She started with basic moves like how to sexily walk around the pole, how to spin around the pole, sexy floor moves and finally how to climb the pole and do sexy moves from the top. These last moves were very advanced and I could not make it up the pole with just taking one class. The instructor advised that this is like any other physical activity and to really master it and move onto the next level you would need to come twice a week for about a month.
Once you have the right technique down the moves were surprisingly easy! I could throw myself around the pole and spin, land and stand up all while looking hot doing it! It felt so good to get the moves and I loved how I looked doing them. Definitely a confidence booster.
The Verdict: LOVE IT! I would absolutely go back and take more beginners classes and move up to the more challenging moves. Also want to go back and try the lap dancing class! Oohh lala!
