CRSSD Festival is a semi-annual two-day music festival in San Diego that is help in the spring and the fall at the Waterfront Park in Downtown San Diego. The scenery is gorgeous – the San Diego bay harbor on one side, the sky high buildings on the other and a beautiful waterpark nestled right in between. Weekend and one-day tickets are fairly reasonably priced and the lineup includes top electro DJs like Justin Martin, ODESZA and Gorgon City, just to name a few of my favorites.
I have wanted to go to this festival since it started and this spring I finally did it! Weekend passes are available, but I opted for the one-day pass on Sunday only. Next fall when it comes around again I plan to go all weekend because it really was so much fun.
And here’s why:
Everyone is so nice! Everyone is in the fun, loving San Diego festival mood!
The music is amazing! Not all of the artists are super well know, but all of them are amazing. It’s a great opportunity to be exposed to new sounds and discover new favorites.
It’s beautiful and even if you’re just sitting by the water watching the festival unfold you are still going to have so much fun.
You can play in the water! The waterfront park has bonds with streaming water that you are more than welcome to walk in and enjoy. Or lay in and swim as some festive goers were doing.
It’s pretty lax and not super packed. The festival is still in its early stages and while it did sell out, I never thought the lines or crowds were too much to handle. Even the line to get in, it was long, but not miserably so. And the people in line were pretty fun to hang around. I’m talking to you inflatable pickle guy.
Have I convinced you to go in the fall? Good! Here are some tips for first timers:
Buy your tickets early! Early, as in as soon as they go on sale. Tickets for the weekend start at $95 and go up and up from there. I paid $90 for just one day in the weeks prior.
It’s easy to sneak in. although I don’t recommend it because I’m sure they will catch on. Even though I had a ticket, I never showed it to anyone…
The line to get in is long. If you want to get there at 3, I’d recommend getting there by 1.
Put on your best festival fit. Festivals are always a fashion show and I love seeing all the different wild looks that come out of them. Anything goes!
Go with a group! Because of its size it’s easy to get around the festival as a group, easy to find each other and more is merrier after all!
Plan for pre-parties and after-parties. They are everywhere! Andaz had a pre-pool party (although this March it was rainy and kind of cold. October won’t be!) After-parties are literally everywhere in the Gaslamp and since you’re already in the area, you might as well stay for an extended festival experience.
CRSSD Festival is a really great gathering of music and art loving San Diegans (and others). This is the type of festival I can see growing into a big name event that continues to put America’s finest city on the map! See you all there in October!
